The Hillsdale, N.J. postmaster reported a flock of turkeys had attacked one of his mail carriers on Tuesday.
HILLSDALE - "You're not going to believe this, but ..."
So begins a 911 call from the head of the Hillsdale Post Office on Tuesday reporting that one of his mail carriers was being attacked by a flock of angry, wild turkeys.
"They won't let him deliver the mail," says the postmaster before the 911 dispatcher begins to laugh.
The postmaster called police about 12:10 p.m. Tuesday to report that a mailman had been surrounded by turkeys on Esplanade Drive. The carrier retreated to his truck and was trapped inside.
"OK," the dispatcher says. "Being attacked by turkeys."
"It's crazy," the postmaster says, indicating that something similar had happened before.
"They're actually attacking, biting. They chase the trucks (and) everything," the Postmaster says on the tape.
The police department dispatched two officers who managed to scare the turkeys from the truck.
The turkeys moved on to a wooded area while letter carrier continued on his route, skipping three homes.
