The teens were students at Union City High School and Cliffside Park Middle School.

NORTH BERGEN -- Officials issued statements Sunday mourning the two teenagers killed when they were struck by a vehicle that jumped a curb on 26th Street late Saturday.

Bryan Rodriguez, was a freshman at Union City High School, a statement from Union City schools superintendent Silvia Abbato and Union City Mayor Brian Stack said.

"This is a very sad and difficult time for the School District and the entire community of Union City. Bryan Rodriguez was a very popular and likeable young man who played on the freshman football team and who loved to dance. Our hearts go out to the families of all three children involved, and we will have grief counselors available tomorrow for all students," the statement said.

Noel Herrera attended Cliffside Park Middle School.

"The entire Cliffside Park School District is deeply saddened by the lost of Noel who was a member of our Middle School community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends," Cliffside Park Superintendent Michael J. Romagino said.

Both superintendents said counselors would be on hand at schools Monday.

One person has been arrested in the deaths, Hudson County Frank Schillari said. Another 17-year-old suffered critical injuries.
