Heating and ventilation work planned
HASBROUCK HEIGHTS -- Hasbrouck Heights residents voted Tuesday to allow bonding for $6.7 million in upgrades to heating and ventilation systems at local schools.
The borough clerk said 594 people voted in favor while 466 voted against the referendum, The Record reported. Residents previously voted down a December 2009 referendum on upgrading the ventilation systems.
According to the report, the school district is now approved to pay $4.4 million to fund the work while $3.9 million will be bonded. Officials said $500,000 will come from the district's capital reserve. The state will cover $2.3 million of the project through a grant.
The average home in Hasbrouck Heights, assessed at $351,953, will see an annual tax impact of about $70, the newspaper's report said.
