Rafal Kaldon, 40, faces extradition to Poland to face charges.
GARFIELD - A city man fighting extradition to Poland in connection with a fatal beating case from 1996 will not be released on bail, according to a report on northjersey.com.
Rafal Kaldon, 40, told a federal judge during a hearing in Newark Thursday he would post several properties he owns with his wife as a guarantee that he would not flee. He also offered to wear a GPS device, according to the report.
But the judge told Kaldon there were no special circumstances that would permit his release on bail.
N.J. man arrested in 1996 killing
According to a court complaint, Kaldon and his accomplice entered a disco on Aug. 25, 1996, "walked up to a man, and without speaking to him, began to beat him until he collapsed." The pair continued to beat and kick the man until he died, the complaint said.
Kaldon then fled to the United States, according to the complaint. He was arrested by U.S. Marshals earlier this month.
An extradition hearing is set for April 25.
