ENGLEWOOD -- Members of the First Presbyterian Church of Englewood celebrated Easter Sunday at the Bergen County Performing Arts Center, days after a fire destroyed their church, the Record reported.
The Easter service was hastily arranged with help from bergenPAC staff and Mayor Frank Huttle.
The church will worship at various places over the next six weeks until its gymnasium is ready for service, said the Rev. Richard Hong, the pastor for the First Presbyterian Church of Englewood. Hong said in his sermon that the meaning he and other parishioners attached to the church hasn't changed.
A fire destroyed the 150-year-old church Tuesday night. The congregation, formed in 1860, was the first Presbyterian congregation in the country. Other houses of worship sent offers of support and help even as the church was still burning.
