HACKENSACK -- A fire displaced 10 people Tuesday from a two-family house on Clinton Place, a fire official said.
More than 40 firefighters, including mutual aid from surrounding towns, responded to the blaze, Hackensack Deputy Fire Chief John Niland said.
The attic of the 2.5-story wood-frame house was smoking when firefighters arrived just after 6:43 p.m. Fire was visible shortly after.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. It's not believed to be suspicious, Niland said.
The fire started between the second floor and attic. No one was inside when it broke out, but residents found smoke and a ringing smoke alarm when they arrived home.
