EAST RUTHERFORD -- Jim Kirkos, president of the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce, expects a "massive boost" for businesses when Paul McCartney plays MetLife Stadium.

The Beatle plans to perform in East Rutherford Aug. 7 as part of his One on One tour. McCartney last played in New Jersey in 2002.

Kirkos noted that the McCartney show is among a series of big shows planned at the state's largest venue. Also on the docket: hip-hop megashow Summer Jam (June 5), Coldplay (July 16 and 17) and Kenney Chesney (Aug. 20).

"From an entertainment standpoint there is great prestige in this announcement, but what may not be apparent is the massive boost our economy derives from the visitors that will be generated," Kirkos said.

Kirkos has said MetLife could draw even more events and visitors if the state invested more on promoting tourism. In a conference in October, he said MetLife had lost events to other stadiums because other states' tourism organizations have more clout and funding.
