PATERSON - Detectives arrested a man and seized about $4,000 worth of heroin after a traffic stop in the city, authorities said Saturday.
Marcus Austin, 31, of Paterson, was charged with possession of heroin with the intent to distribute the drug, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik.
The arrest came as sheriff's narcotics investigators were working with Fair Lawn police in a joint program to combat drug sales on both sides of the Passaic River, along the Route 20 corridor, Berdnik said in a statement.
While doing surveillance in the area, detectives stopped Austin for driving without wearing a seatbelt, the sheriff said.
Austin tried to hide heroin as police approached the car, Berdnik said. Detectives recovered 660 glassine envelopes of the drug and about $5,800 in suspected drug proceeds.
Bail information for Austin was not immediately available.
