The Board of Health adjourned a hearing on whether to revoke the license
PARAMUS -- The owner of Just Pups and the borough of Paramus are discussing an agreement to give up the company's business license.
The Board of Health was scheduled to hold a hearing on the business Monday night, but Borough Administrator Joseph D'Arco said the attorneys for Just Pups asked to adjourn the meeting.
The Paramus Mayor and Council plan to discuss an agreement for owner Vincent LoSacco to give up his license Tuesday night. A notice on the Just Pups website said the Paramus store would "consolidate" with a location in Emerson.
Emerson Mayor Louis J. Lamatina attended the meeting "to gather information," he said. The business license for Just Pups in Emerson isn't up for renewal until June, and the store there hasn't faced the same legal issues as the locations in Paramus or New Brunswick.
LoSacco and his brother Leonard have been charged with 134 counts of animal cruelty after police said they found more than 60 puppies left unattended in a van outside the Route 17 shop. East Brunswick revoked the license for the store there after authorities charged LoSacco with 267 counts of animal cruelty.
LoSacco has denied mistreating the puppies. He did not immediately return a message seeking comment Monday.
Protests are planned at the Emerson store Wednesday and Saturday, said Kathryn Ross-Nash, an Allendale resident who has spoken out against LoSacco.
Robike Noll, a Westwood resident who has helped organize the protests, said towns needed to pass ordinances banning all puppy stores from opening.
"What's next for Just Pups is he's going to look for another location to open," she said.
