The suspect entered Riverside Liquors in Lyndhurst about 6:20 p.m. on March 19 and found the clerk asleep behind the counter.

LYNDHURST - Police are looking for a man who stole $1,500 in alcoholic beverages from a store in six trips as the cashier slept behind the counter.

The suspect, who was between 40-50 years old, entered Riverside Liquors about 6:20 p.m. on March 19 and found the clerk asleep behind the counter, Detective Vin Auteri said in a statement on Friday.

"The suspect then proceeded to remove approximately $1,500 in alcoholic beverages and did so over a course of six trips in and out of the store," Auteri said.

"The suspect returned a seventh time but the employee was awake at that point," Auteri said.

The liquor store's management did not realize the loss until days later, police said.

Police obtained photos of the suspect from the store's surveillance camera.

The suspect wore a gray jacket, a gray button-down shirt and blue jeans. The shirt displayed an unknown embroidery or patch on the left breast side, which could indicate he wore a uniform, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 201-939-2900, extension 2740 or 201-804-9346.
