FORT LEE -- Police on Tuesday seized more than $660,000, plus six vehicles and a fishing boat from a Bergenfield man charged with the financial facilitation of criminal activity.
Fort Lee Police Detective T.J. Cullen stopped a Chevrolet driven by Pedro Vicioso-Lima, 46, at about 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, police said in a press release. Police did not say why they stopped Vicioso-Lima.
Cullen "became suspicious" of Vicioso-Lima's travels to the Bronx, police said. Officer Rick Hernandez arrived with a drug-sniffing dog, which alerted him to the presence of narcotics in the van.
Cullen searched the van and found an electronically operated hidden compartment behind the TV/speaker unit on the ceiling of the vehicle, police said. Police recovered more than $6,000 from inside. There were no drugs found in the car.
Police then arrested Vicioso-Lima and took him to the police station.
They obtained a search warrant for Vicioso-Lima's home in Bergenfield. The search revealed $660,000 in cash hidden in a tiled hot tub enclosure in the bathroom, police said.
Police seized the money, six vehicles and a fishing boat as part of the investigation.
Vicioso-Lima was charged with financial facilitation of criminal activity and sent to Bergen Count Jail on $175,000 bail, jail records show. He made bail Monday.
Police did not reveal what criminal activity Vicioso-Lima was involved in.
