Police Sgt. Allison McNeice filed a lawsuit in 2015 claiming favoritism and gender bias.
MONTVALE - The borough has agreed to pay police Sgt. Allison McNeice $77,500 to settle a lawsuit that claimed the officer was passed over twice for promotions, NorthJersey.com reported Tuesday.
McNeice, who is Montvale's first female officer, filed suit in April 2015, claiming she was passed over twice for promotions to the rank of lieutenant. At least one of the other candidates had ties to police Chief Jeremy Abrams, according to the report.
The suit alleged the promotional process is fraught with favoritism and that McNeice was passed over because of her gender and opposition to the dissolution of the Montvale Department of Public Works, according to the report.
Although settling the suit, the borough denies all of McNeices claims. McNeice remains employed with the police department, according to the report.
