Sunday is opening day for NJ Transit's $18 million Wesmont station
Sunday is opening day for NJ Transit's Wesmont station, serving a transit-orientated development in Wood-Ridge in Bergen County.
The $18 million stop is adjacent to the Avalon at Wesmont Station complex, built by Somerset Development. The station, on NJ Transit's Bergen County Line, was built under a public-private partnership between Somerset and NJ Transit, and cost the agency $6 million.
Under the transit-orientated development concept, residents live close enough to the station to walk or bike there. Bike racks are part of the station's features, although a total of 215 parking spaces will be built in the future -- there are 24 spaces now available in a temporary lot.
Bids to construct the rest of the parking lot are scheduled to open on May 19, according to NJ Transit's procurement website. The station, which features a high-level platform and an overpass the cross the tracks, was originally scheduled to open last fall.
