Two teens offered to give a 9-year-old a ride, the boy told his mother.
OAKLAND -- The mother of a young boy called police after someone tried to offer the child a ride Wednesday night, department spokesman Lt. Christian Eldridge said in a statement.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on Hatfield Road, where the 9-year-old said two older teenagers in a black, Jeep-style vehicle pulled up and asked him if he "wanted a lift," Eldridge said. The child ran into his house and told his mother,who immediately called police.
Responding officers searched but were unable to find the vehicle, Eldridge also said. There were no reports of similar incidents in the area, Eldridge added.
The vehicle is described as a black Jeep or van. The passenger inside was wearing a red sleeveless shirt. Anyone with information is being asked to call the detective bureau at 201-337-6171.
