Crews were called to the under-construction Field Station Dinosaurs theme park for a giant dino ablaze on Thursday.
LEONIA -- We know what killed the dinosaur - or at least the one at Overpeck Park in Leonia.
Crews were called to the under-construction Field Station: Dinosaurs theme park for a giant Argentinosaurus ablaze at about 1 p.m. Thursday, Leonia Police Capt. Scott Tamagny said.
Leonia Police tweeted photos of the extinction - err, extinguishing - saying, it was "definitely a first" for the department and reporting that "sadly, the dinosaur did not survive."
Several other dinosaurs could be seen in the photos, witnesses to their friend's demise, but all "refused to give a statement," Leonia police said.
Police rejected hypotheses about the event - a meteor, perhaps? - and said they believe the fire was accidentally caused by a welder.
"It appears to have been a spark from a welder that set it on fire," Tamagny said. "Luckily, only one dino was affected. All the others are fine. Unfortunately, the Argentinosaurus was their largest dinosaur."
Tamagny said the event has spawned plenty of jokes on Twitter.
"'Jurassic sparks,' that one was pretty good," he said. "Someone else said dinosaurs really shouldn't be smoking."
Tamagny said the park is still scheduled to open on May 28 after moving from Secaucus, despite today's casualty.
We could only squeeze so many dino puns into this post, so please leave us some more in the comments! And read more about the park, here:
