He would have been paid $74,000.
RUTHERFORD -- Mayor Joe DeSalvo is scrapping plans to make his position full time with a $74,000 salary, The Record reported.
The Borough Council had considered giving DeSalvo the duties of Borough Administrator and raising his salary from $4,000 a year. DeSalvo had taken on the responsibilities of administrator since the former job-holder left the seat empty last year.
DeSalvo plans to instead ask the council to appoint a candidate to fill the role of executive secretary who would take on some administrative duties and be paid between $70,000 and $90,000 a year.
Some residents opposed the plan to make DeSalvo's job full time, saying he hadn't mentioned the proposal when he ran for re-election in November. DeSalvo said he had never been comfortable with the proposal, and that the council had suggested it.
