He laid down or fell in front of the truck, witnesses said.
MONTVALE -- A New York man suffered traumatic injuries Tuesday after a delivery truck ran over him in a Dunkin' Donuts parking lot, police said.
The 41-year-old from Spring Valley, N.Y., laid down or fell in front of the right front tire of the stopped truck Tuesday morning, witnesses told Montvale Police.
The truck driver, also 41, couldn't see the man when he got into the vehicle, Montvale Police Chief Jeremy Abrams said. He was moving the truck to make a delivery to Dunkin' Donuts.
The truck pulled forward, rolling the right front tire over the man's torso, Abrams said. The man was evacuated by helicopter to Hackensack University Medical Center in grave condition.
Doctors were performing surgery as of 10:45 a.m., Abrams said. Police did not charge the truck driver.
Police were notifying the man's family, Abrams said. They are investigating the incident.
