TEANECK -- Authorities on Wednesday asked for the public's help as they investigate a hit-and-run that led to the death of a 50-year-old bicyclist in the township.

Juan Vasquez, of Englewood, died at Hackensack University Medical Center after he was injured by a vehicle at East Englewood Avenue and Nelden Road around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Police responded to 9-1-1 calls reporting a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle at the intersection, the prosecutor's office said in a statement. Officers found Vasquez on a grassy area next to the roadway.

Emergency crews rushed Vasquez to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to authorities.

Vasquez was riding his bike eastbound on East Englewood Avenue when he struck the passenger side of a moving vehicle while it was attempting to negotiate a left turn to Nelden Road, the prosecutor's office said.

The vehicle kept going southbound on Nelden Road, the statement said. Investigators suspect the vehicle could have damage to its passenger front door-area or middle vertical support area, called a B pillar.
