RAMSEY -- The former bookkeeper for a Ramsey flooring company who embezzled more than $500,000 from her employer to support her gambling addiction was sentenced Friday to nine years in state prison, The Record reported.
Monica P. Arencibia, 51, of Dumont, who has spent the past 15 months in jail, pleaded guilty to a theft by deception charge, the newspaper reported.
As previously reported by NJ Advance Media, Arencibia was charged in June 2014 with money laundering, computer theft, theft by deception and forgery for stealing more than $500,000 from her Ramsey-based employer, Modern Flooring, over the course of four years. She used some of the money to satisfy personal debts and other bills, but she spent most of it at various casinos, police have said.

Arencibia, who was indicted this past June, created checks through the Quickbooks accounting program, assigned the checks to vendors, issued the checks in her name and then forged the company owner's signature, police have said.
The deception was discovered in 2014 when the owner of Modern Floor noticed a discrepancy between the company's earnings and its books, eventually learning that nearly $50,000 in forged checks were cashed since late 2013.
