ENGLEWOOD -- A Palisades Park man sustained fractures to his face and vertebrae Monday after being struck by an SUV, police said.
The driver, 40, of Old Tappan, struck the 68-year-old at about 5:10 p.m. while turning left from Phelps Avenue onto Grand Avenue, Englewood Police Chief Lawrence Suffern said.
The Palisades Park was crossing from the west side of Grand Avenue south of Phelps Avenue, in an area without a crosswalk, Suffern said. He was found unconscious with serious injuries to his face and spine and some bleeding in his brain.
He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, Suffern said. The Old Tappan man, who drove a 2014 Mercedes ML350, gave a statement to police.
Police plan to issue a summons for failing to stop for a pedestrian in an unmarked crosswalk, Suffern said.
