WALLINGTON -- A dog needed rescue Wednesday after chasing a flock of geese into the Passaic River, police said.
The Wallington Fire Department scuba team followed Lucas, a 2-year-old Golden/Vizla mix, into the water and returned him to his owner, Police Chief Carmello Imbruglia said.
The dog's owner called police at 4:41 p.m. to report that Lucas had run into the water, Imbruglia said. He ran through a fence near the west side of Lester Street, down an embankment and into the water.
The dog was unhurt. One police officer got stuck waist-deep in mud during the rescue, but he was able to pull himself out, Imbruglia said.
