Guests at a birthday party saved the 11-year-old, police said

LYNDHURST -- An 11-year-old boy was saved after he was discovered at the bottom of a pool during a birthday party Friday night, Lt. Michael Carrino of Lyndhurst police said.

The boy was at a home on Livingston Avenue when he was spotted shortly before 7 p.m. Guests at the party rescued the boy and immediately began reviving him.

"He was pulled out by a mom at the party .... The moms did a good job. One of them was actually a nurse," Carrino said.

Carrino, along with officers Nicholas Abruscato and Nolan James as well as the Lyndhurst rescue squad, arrived at the scene and administered oxygen. The boy, who was alert and conscious, was taken to the hospital in good condition, Carrino said.
