The French chateau-style mansion is owned by home furnishings magnate Steven Stark of Stark Carpets and his wife Candice, who bought the property in 1997 for $1.94 million
Carpet magnate Steven Stark and his wife Candice have listed their French chateau-style mansion in Alpine's Rio Vista neighborhood for $20 million (okay, $19,999,000), making it the third most expensive home on the market in New Jersey -- right after two other opulent Alpine mansions.
The two other homes are both on former estate of Henry Clay Frick II, the grandson and namesake of the industrialist and philanthropist. Frick's 1930s mansion came on the market in December at $27.8 million. In the top spot is the custom-built 30,000-square-foot Stone Mansion, now listed at $48.88 million.

The 20,000-square-foot home on two gated acres has 9 bedrooms, 10 full bathrooms, a dining room that can seat 30, a billiards room, a gym, an indoor basketball court, an arcade, a 14-seat home theater, and, of course, Stark carpets throughout.
The rear wing features an indoor pool with a a flume, a glass roof and English garden murals, and there is also an outdoor pool, a pool house and a tennis court.
Michele Kolsky-Assatly of Coldwell Banker has the listing.
The couple, who bought the property in 1997 for $1.94 million and spent an undisclosed amount to build and renovate the house over the years, raised their children in Alpine. Now they spend most of their time in New York City, where they own a Park Avenue home featured in Architectural Digest. It was designed by Trisha Reger, who also worked on the Alpine home.
Taxes are $64,975 a year.
Among Stark's neighbors: Comedian Tracy Morgan, who spent $13.9 million on a mansion in Rio Vista last year.
