The accident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. Friday on Interstate 287 North near Exit 58.

OAKLAND - A tractor-trailer struck a guardrail and jackknifed early Friday morning on Interstate 287 North, about a quarter-mile from Exit 58, authorities said.

The driver, who was not identified, suffered minor cuts and bruises in the accident, which occurred shortly after 5 a.m., according to N.J. State Police spokesman Trooper Alejandro Goez.

"The tractor was destroyed. It's unknown what was being carried in the two trailers," Goez said.

The accident left one lane of traffic open for about three hours, causing delays, Goez said.

All lanes reopened about 8 a.m.

Members of the Bergen County Hazmat Team were on the scene to clean up a small fuel spill, the spokesman said.

Members of the Oakland EMS team and fire department were also there, Goez said.

The driver has not been charged. The accident is under investigation.
