An anonymous family donated $500,000 to keep Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington open, church officials announced Tuesday.
The Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington will remain open for the 2016-17 school year, in part due to a $500,000 donation made by an anonymous family, church officials announced on Tuesday.
The high school had looked like it might have to close its doors, citing finances and declining enrollment, but met its goal of raising $1 million over the summer to stay open another year.
The family's dollar donation comes in addition to the goal, and the school is expected to enroll about 225 students this coming year.
The terms of the donation dictate that the money be used for planning, marketing and fundraising. The donors were introduced to the school by Archbishop John J. Myers, according to the news release.
"While there still are hurdles to overcome in the months ahead - including how the parish will seek to resolve the outstanding debt that the high school's circumstances had created - I am confident that parish and school leadership will work with our staff here in the Chancery to find a solution that benefits all," Myers said in a news release.
The donors said in the statement that their donation came with a "matching grant component" of money donated to the school in the next two years.
