ALPINE - A group of 13 missing hikers were rescued Tuesday night from the trails below State Line Lookout, according to police.

Police in boats rescued the hikers, according to a tweet posted by Palisades Interstate Parkway police.

No injuries were reported.

CBS2 reported the group stayed out past dark on a trail near a rock formation known as the Giant Stairs, and were unable to find their way out.

The New York New Jersey Trail Conference states on its website that the Giant Stairs are the most scenic in the park.

"It is also the most difficult hike in the park, as it involves not only steep climbs and descents on uneven rock steps, but also nearly a mile of walking near the shore of the river on jumbled rocks," NYNJTC states.  "Make sure you allow enough time to complete the hike before dark, and wear sturdy footwear with rubber soles."
