The Elmwood Park resident allegedly used the stolen money to pay restitution to a previous victim
A New Jersey woman was indicted Tuesday on charges she stole $800,000 from her job in New York to re-pay a former employer she ripped off, authorities said.
Michiko Diaz, 57, of Elmwood Park, was "robbing Peter to pay Paul," Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said in a news release announcing the indictment.
Woman allegedly stole $40K from business
Diaz allegedly wrote 99 checks to herself from 2006 to 2012 while working as an assistant account manager at Kobe Steel USA, authorities said. She made fake entries into company's books to try to hide the theft, authorities said.
Diaz then used the money to pay court-ordered restitution to the victim of a previous scheme in New Jersey, according to Vance.
She also spent some of the stolen funds on clothing, makeup, credit cards and cable bills and her daughter's wedding expenses, Vance said.
Diaz is charged with grand larceny, two counts of criminal tax fraud, criminal possession of a forged in instrument and offering a false instrument for filing. All are felonies.
She was held on $400,000 bail, NYPost.com said.
