EAST RUTHERFORD - Police have arrested a 77-year-old man after they say he offered to sell handguns and bullets to an undercover police officer.

Jack Koval Jr. of Bayonne met with an undercover detective in East Rutherford on Saturday for the purposes of making the sale, according to Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.

"During that meeting, Koval offered three handguns with ammunition for sale," Grewal said in a statement.

Police seized the weapons and bullets, Grewal said.

A search of the Koval's home turned up a loaded handgun and $100,000 cash, the prosecutor said.

Koval was arrested and charged with distribution of a firearm without being registered or licensed.

He was released on his own recognizance pending an Oct. 5 court hearing.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be considered by a Bergen County Grand Jury, Grewal said.
