An unattended pair of shoes under a bench at the Ridgewood Train Station during the morning rush Thursday prompted an evacuation and shutdown of NJ Transit trains at the station, authorities said.

"About 8:45 a.m., a N.J. Transit police officer spotted an unattended pair of shoes with what appeared to be a wire under them," said Transit spokesman Jim Smith.
Thirty train customers were evacuated from the station.
A bomb squad, along with Village police and NJ Transit officers arrived and made several sweeps of the station, finding nothing other than the shoes, Smith said.
"They are obviously nothing explosive," Smith said. "Exactly what [the wire] was is under investigation."
Train service resumed at 10:10 a.m.
