The employees prepared 10,000 meals which will help feed needy children in the state
PARAMUS -- Microsoft employees put down their tablets and laptops Saturday when they turned the Garden State Plaza store into a pop-up kitchen.
Gathering early before the mall opened, the employees helped prepare 10,000 healthy meals as part of Feeding Children Everywhere's hunger project.
"It was really exciting to bring our teams together to assemble thousands of meals -- side by side -- to provide for hungry children around us that need help," said Nikki DeBiase, community development specialist, at the store. "It's part of who we are here at the Microsoft Store: we're committed to being part of and supporting our local community."
Donning hairnets, 18 workers from three Microsoft stores sorted, assembled and packed the meals via assembly line. The meals, which included lentil casserole, will help feed needy children in the N.J. area.
The event is one of 600 projects Feeding Children Everywhere holds with companies, churches and organizations every year, according to spokesperson Robert Andrescik.
"I think it's exciting to see how employees at Microsoft are benefiting their community and helping to end hunger in America," Andrescik said.
