It's unclear whether Gov. Chris Christie will join Trump at the fundraiser.

TRENTON -- Donald Trump is bringing his presidential campaign back to the Garden State this weekend -- for a $5,000-a-head private fundraiser, according to a report by Politico New Jersey.

The Republican nominee is scheduled appear at the event in Bergen County on Saturday to benefit the Trump Victory fund, according to Politico, which obtained an email sent by the county's GOP.

"I am absolutely thrilled to announce that Saturday evening, October 1st the Republican Nominee for President of the United States, Donald J. Trump will be attending a Trump Victory fundraiser here in BERGEN COUNTY!" Bergen County Republican Chairman Paul DiGaetano wrote in the email to county party members Sunday, according to the report.

"This is a great honor for us as Bergen County Republicans and a special opportunity for us to participate in this most important presidential campaign," DiGaetano added.

Trump touts Christie at rally

Tickets start at $5,000 for the fundraiser, which is scheduled to be held at an undisclosed private residence, the report said.

The Trump Victory fund raises money for the celebrity businessman's campaign, the Republican National Committee and state GOP parties across the country, including New Jersey.

DiGaetano told the website he doesn't know whether Gov. Chris Christie, one of Trump's top advisers, will be there.

Hope Hicks, a spokeswoman for Trump's campaign did not immediately return a message seeking comment Tuesday.

Trump, a former Atlantic City casino magnate, has held only one public campaign event in New Jersey: a $200-a-person rally in Lawrenceville that helped Christie raise money to pare down debt from his own unsuccessful presidential campaign.

Trump's campaign has suggested that winning New Jersey is possible, even though a Republican presidential candidate hasn't won the state since George H.W. Bush in 1988.

A Rutgers-Eagleton poll released Monday showed Democratic nominee Hillar Clinton leading Trump 50 to 29 percent in the state.
