MIDLAND PARK -- A vigil is planned Sunday for the mother of two who authorities allege was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend in the borough.

The vigil for Suzanne Bardzell will be held at 3 p.m. at the Wortendyke Park on Englishman Drive in Midland Park, according to Rev. Lloyd Vorderstrasse of the Midland Park Church of God.

All houses of worship in the borough were invited to participate, police said in an announcement on the department's Facebook page.

"We will be sensitive to the hurt of the family and loved ones involved and respect their need for time to grieve, but feel there is a need to pray for peace, comfort, safety and the well-being of our community at this time," the borough department's message said.

Prosecutors said Arthur J. Lomando, 44, of Centereach, New York attacked Bardzell after she pulled into her Godwin Avenue driveway, stabbing her repeatedly with a machete-like knife Thursday afternoon.

About an hour later, Lomando jumped in front of a New York City subway and was critically injured, according to police.

Lomando, who was fired from the NYPD, dated Bardzell for about three years after they met online, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said at a news conference Thursday.

Bardzell, 48, had a restraining order against Lomando after unspecified domestic violence incidents, according to local police.

She worked as a teacher at Community School in Teaneck and had two sons, ages 16 and 18.
