FAIR LAWN - A borough man has been charged with aggravated assault for an attack on an acquaintance of his girlfriend that left the man in critical condition, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
Steven Duckack, 59, is being held on $250,000 bail.
The man Duckack allegedly beat remains in critical condition after undergoing surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, said Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.
Grewal said the victim went to a home on Smith Avenue about 5:30 p.m. Sept. 23 to pick up a Duckack's girlfriend, Grewal said. Duckack, who lived with the woman, then attacked the man, Grewal said.
The man was taken to the hospital with facial injuries. His conditioned worsened and became critical after surgery, authorities said.
Duckack was arrested last week following an investigation by Fair Lawn police and the major crimes unit of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
Duckack's $250,000 bail was maintained Friday after a judge heard evidence in the case, the prosecutor said.
