The latest creepy clown sighting began early Wednesday in Butler, cops said.

FAIR LAWN - A truck filled with teenagers - at least two of them wearing clown masks - followed and frightened a woman driver and her passenger for at least 20 miles, authorities said Thursday.

The latest creepy clown sighting occurred about 1 a.m. Wednesday in Butler and ended when police pulled over a black Toyota Tundra in Paramus, said Fair Lawn police Sgt. Brian Metzler.

"The occupants had been hanging out of the vehicle and yelling at the victims while wearing clown masks," Metzler said.

A front seat passenger, Connor Moreno, 18, of Lodi was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance after police said they found marijuana on him.

The driver, Cortney Thissen, 19, of Fair Lawn, was cited for reckless driving, Metzler said.

Inside the truck, police found three other teenagers: an 18-year-old male from Hackensack, a 19-year-old female from Hasbrouck Heights and an 18-year-old male from Saddle Brook.

The three were released without being cited or charged, Metzler said.

Police said they also found two clown masks.

"They tried to hide them in the truck," Metzler said.

N.J. man charged with manslaughter in beating

The 24-year-old female victim of Hawthorne told police she and her 25-year-old passenger were driving along Route 23 around 1 a.m. Wednesday when a black truck pulled alongside them.

At least two of the people in the truck were wearing clown masks, hanging out the windows and yelling at them, the victims told police.

"The two passengers wearing the masks (Moreno and an 18-year-old male from Saddle Brook) stated that they only waved their hands at the victims as they hung out of the vehicle," Metzler said.

"They either followed them or happened to be behind them most of the way (to Fair Lawn)," Metzler said "Everyone in the truck is from here, so we don't know if they followed or were headed here anyway.

"One thing is they didn't know the woman (in the car) was on the phone with 911," Metzler said.

In addition to Fair Lawn police, Paramus, N.J. State Police and Wyckoff police assisted, Metzler said.

Metzler said additional charges may be forthcoming from Butler police since that's where the incident began.
