Mike Devenio (class of 2010), was reportedly killed in a multi-car accident near MetLife Stadium.
EAST RUTHERFORD - A former star football player at Paramus Catholic High School died Sunday in a car crash near MetLife Stadium, according to the high school's alumni association.
Mike DeVenio (GoFundMe)"It is with a heavy heart that I tell you we lost one of our own last night," the group, Paramus Catholic Football Alumni, wrote on its Facebook page. "Mike DeVenio (class of 2010), was tragically killed in a car accident by MetLife Stadium. He was 24."
DeVenio, who lived in Lyndhurst, made second-team as a wide receiver in the North Bergen Interscholastic League. After graduating Paramus Catholic in 2010, he played wide receiver at Western New England University.
Police said one man died and four others were injured in the crash, which occurred when four vehicles collided about 3:19 a.m. on Route 3 East near MetLife Stadium.

DeVenio's name had not been released by police by early Monday. But the alumni association and friends began posting tributes to DeVenio on social media on Sunday.
"I really don't know what to say. He was one of my right hands in high school and a teammate on the field! I'm really upset about this," wrote Gerard Bennett of Orange.
"I'll always remember your infectious smile. You were loved by EVERYONE," wrote Gina Marie Mastrangelo of Rutherford.
Jonathan Jasinski of Lyndhurst created a GoFundMe page to help raise money for DeVenio's funeral.
"We all have to be a brick wall for Mikey," Jasinski wrote. "He had always been a brick wall for me and his family and everyone else that has ever known him."
Police have said the cause of the accident is under investigation.
