A 27-year-old woman was caught trying to steal drugs from a medicine drop-off box at the borough's municipal building hours after she was arrested on unrelated charges, police said Wednesday.

Robyn Verga, of Garfield, returned to police headquarters around 1 p.m. Tuesday to pick up property taken by officers during her arrest about 12 hours earlier, Sgt. Brian Metzler said in a news release.
Detective Paul Donohue and Capt. Robert Kneer watched Verga on security cameras as she reached into the department's Project Medicine Drop box, the sergeant said. The boxes are part of an effort to prevent drug abuse by allowing people to anonymously drop off unused prescription medications.

Police stopped her and found two bottles of hydrocodone and Vicodin "in her clothing," the release said. She was released after being charged with theft of movable property and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
Earlier, Verga was arrested with Jordan Stevens, 27, of Prospect Park and Rosemary Verga, 64, of Garfield in connection with a shoplifting at Dunkin Donuts on Broadway, police said. They were all released after that arrest as well.
Stevens and Robyn Verga were charged with shoplifting in that case, police said. Rosemary Verga was charged with receiving stolen property after the stolen goods were found in a car she was driving, according to police.
