Joshua Craig Rowling, 18, of Richmondville, N.Y. is charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
MAHWAH - A New York man who advertised his services online as a hitman has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder for hire, authorities said Monday.
Joshua Craig Rowling, 18, of Richmondville, N.Y., was arrested Friday after traveling to Mahwah, where he thought he would commit a murder, according to Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.
"The investigation revealed that Rowling agreed with another to commit a murder in exchange for a firearm fitted with a silencer and cash," Grewal said.
"Ultimately, Rowling drove from his home in Richmondville, N.Y., to Mahwah to meet with a person he thought was seeking his services as a hitman, but who was actually an undercover officer," Grewal said.
Rowling, who is unemployed, was arrested on Ramapo Valley Road.
He was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit murder for hire and weapons possession, according to the prosecutor.
Rowling was held in the Bergen County Jail on $1 million full bail.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 2.
