BERGEN COUNTY -- A California man was arrested Wednesday in his home state for allegedly distributing child pornography online to an undercover police officer in Bergen County, authorities said.

Douglas Deibel, 41, of Sacremento, Calif., was charged with distributing images of child pornography, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said in a news release.

Deibel's arrest stemmed from an Internet investigation in which he chatted online using the screen name "DejaVu1877" with an individual he believed to be the parent of a six-year-old girl, Molinelli said. In reality, the "parent" was a detective with the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Computer Crimes Unit working in an undercover capacity, he said.

Deibel, a self-employed graphic artist, described his attraction to viewing child pornography during some of the sexually-explicit chats that followed, Molinelli said. Deibel also allegedly transmitted numerous images of child exploitation to the detective he believed was the parent.

Authorities obtained a court-authorized search warrant as a result of the investigation, which was executed at his home on Wednesday by police in California, Molinelli said.

He's currently being held in California in lieu of bail pending extradition to New Jersey. Once he's extradited to the Garden State, his bail will be $75,000 with no 10-percent option.
