RIVER EDGE -- Sheli Dansky, a 26-year member of the River Edge Board of Education, has been named the 2016 "Member of the Year" by the New Jersey School Boards Association.

The award honors a school board member who makes "significant contributions, demonstrates leadership, a strong commitment to personal and professional development, and an active involvement in school at the local, county and state levels."

Dansky has been president and vice president of the River Edge Board of Education and served on all of the board's committees. She has been president of the Bergen County School Boards Association since 2013, where she has served on the Special Education Committee and the Special Education Task Force. Dansky earned the certified board leader designation from the NJSBA's Board Member Academy, a program that recognizes advanced training for school board members.

In 2004, she received the Archie F. Hay Award for Distinguished Service from the Bergen County School Boards Association.

"Sheli embodies all the qualities of the very best board members," said Lawrence S. Feinsod, NJSBA executive director. "She has worked tirelessly for the children in her district for more than a quarter century."

"Working on behalf of the students for River Edge and the state of New Jersey is a responsibility I cherish," Dansky said.

Dansky was honored Oct. 25 at the New Jersey School Boards Association Workshop in Atlantic City.
