According to a 1915 annual report of the New Jersey State Charities Aid and Prison Reform Association, the home was opened in 1900 in what had been a private residence. The home was supported by donations and public funding with the goal of "educating dependent children."
The site at 125 Essex St. is now home to the Bergen County Youth Resource Center.
