Someone driving behind the victim saw him jump over the railing, police said

FORT LEE -- A man who was seen pulling his car over on the George Washington Bridge before leaping from the span Friday has died, Port Authority spokesman Joseph Pentangelo said.

A witness was on the lower level driving behind a 2012 Honda Civic with New York plates when the Civic's driver stopped around 3:20 p.m. The driver left the car and leapt over the railing, the witness said.

A Westchester County police harbor unit also saw the man jump from the bridge. The marine unit retrieved the body and transported it to the Edgewater Marina. The man, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at Englewood Hospital, Pentangelo said.
