Weiqi Wang, 27, was an International Relations Graduate School alumna, according to the report.
TEANECK -- A woman who was struck and killed by a car Monday near Fairleigh Dickinson University has been identified as a student who graduated in May, according to a university spokesman and police.
Weiqi Wang, 27, was an International Relations Graduate School alumna from China, said Scott Giglio, assistant director of public relations at the school.
Teaneck police said Wang was in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a 2004 Subaru Outback.
"The accident investigation determined that driver inattention was the main contributing factor in the accident," Teaneck police said in a statement.
The driver was identified by police as Carlos A. Poole, 49, of New Milford. He was issued motor-vehicle summonses for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, careless driving and obstructed view, police said.
Giglio said Wang, who lived in Teaneck, may have been on her way to participate in "optional training" at or near campus when she was struck.
"Even though she had graduated there was still some connection to the school. I don't have all the details," Giglio said.
Wang was found shortly before 7 a.m. lying in the road near the school, which is located on River Road. She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she died.
Poole remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators from the Bergen County Sheriff's Office and members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, police said.
