Rita Heller, 89, claims a couple riding a tandem bike failed to yield and struck her.

FORT LEE - A borough woman has filed a lawsuit against a man and woman she claims struck and seriously injured her as they rode a tandem bike on a sidewalk.

Rita Heller, 89, claims in court papers she was walking at Bride Plaza North when a tandem bicycle headed east on the north side of the sidewalk failed to yield and struck her, knocking her to the ground.

The suit, filed Nov. 22 in Bergen County, names Gail Morris and Alvin Goluv, both of New York City, as the owners and/or operators of the tandem bicycle that struck her on Nov. 22, 2014.

"Gail Morris and/or Alvin Goluv acted carelessly and negligently in not yielding to the pedestrian, causing her bicycle to strike (Heller)," the suit states.

Morris and Goluv could not be reached for comment.

Heller suffered serious and permanent injuries that required medical attention, caused pain, suffering and mental anguish, the suit claims.

She is seeking compensation for past and future suffering, attorney fees and costs of the suit.
