City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said the city is investigating the incident.

A Jersey City battalion chief who has been on the job for 34 years was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with driving while intoxicated in Leonia.

Leonia police officers said they arrested Charles Lind, 57, of Dumont, on Dec. 12 just after 4 p.m. after receiving a report of a possibly intoxicated driver just outside of Overpeck County Park in the Bergen County borough.

Leonia police said Lind was driving a private vehicle, not a marked Jersey City Fire Department car. Police did not answer when asked to share the results of any Breathalyzer or field-sobriety tests.

A request for comment from Lind was not returned.

City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said the city is investigating the incident. She declined to answer when asked if Lind has access to a city vehicle.

Lind has worked for Jersey City since 1982. He was promoted from captain to battalion chief in 2010.
