Colleen Burgos was killed when the driver of the car she was the passenger in crashed into the back of a disabled tractor-trailer in Linden, police said.
LINDEN -- A 39-year-old woman from Little Ferry was killed in a crash on the Turnpike in Linden on Thursday, State Police said.
State police said Colleen Burgos was pronounced dead at the scene when the driver of the 2005 Toyota Matrix she was the passenger in crashed into the back of a disabled tractor-trailer near milepost 98.7 on the Turnpike northbound around 8:30 p.m.
A 21-year-old driver in another car, a 2015 Volkswagon GTI, also slammed into the back of the tractor-trailer but the driver of that vehicle only suffered minor injuries, police said.
The driver of the car Burgos was riding in, Thomas Burgos, 49, of Little Ferry, suffered serious injuries and was taken to University Hospital in Newark, police said.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 2007 Freightliner, was not injured. Police could not say what caused the tractor-trailer to become disabled and said the incident is still under investigation.
The crash happened in the outer roadway truck lanes, according to police.
