TENAFLY -- A 74-year-old borough woman suffered a serious head injury Monday night when she was struck by a commercial dump truck near the intersection of Knickerbocker Road and Day Avenue, police said.
At about 8:44 p.m., police responded to the intersection of a report of crash involving a pedestrian where they found the woman lying in the roadway, police said in a news release. The woman was unresponsive but she was breathing and had a faint pulse when officers arrived at the scene, police said.

Officers and a physician who was driving by the scene attended to the woman while the roadway was closed, police said.
She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center by the Tenafly Volunteer Ambulance Corps, but her condition as of Tuesday was not available, police said.
Based on the preliminary investigation, a PSE&G dump truck operated by a 58-year-old Fair Lawn man was traveling south on Knickerbocker Road when it struck the pedestrian near the Day Avenue intersection, police said.
Tenafly police Capt. Michael deMoncada said there's no marked crossed walk at that intersection. The woman was unconscious when police arrived on the scene so it's too early to know if she was crossing the roadway or walking along the shoulder, he said.
The Bergen County Prosecutors Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and officers from the Bergen County Sheriff's Department assisted borough police with the crash investigation. The roadway remained closed for several hours while investigators gathered evidence and took measurements of the scene, police said. The driver, who was not injured in the crash, was not issued any summonses at the scene but the crash remains under investigation, police said.
Anyone who may have witnessed crash or the events leading up to it can contact the Tenafly Police Department at 201-568-5100.
