Carmen Gonzalez, 52, of North Arlington claims the vehicle plowed into her at Aldi supermarket.

EAST RUTHERFORD - A North Arlington woman claims in a lawsuit she was seriously injured when she was struck by a forklift while shopping for dairy products in a Route 17 grocery store.

Carmen Gonzalez, 52, claims the vehicle plowed into her about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 at Aldi grocery store on Route 17 South in East Rutherford.

"The forklift knocked Ms. Gonzalez to the ground causing her painful injuries," states the suit, which was filed Jan. 17 in Bergen County Superior Court.

The forklift was operated by an unidentified Aldi employee, the suit states.

Gonzalez "did endure great pain and suffering; she was compelled and will in the future be compelled to seek the aid of hospital and physicians for her care, cure and treatment; she was unable to pursue her regular activities and was injured in other ways," the suit claims.

The suit accuses Aldi of negligence and carelessness and of failing to properly supervise employees and store operations. The suit seeks unspecified monetary damages, attorneys' fees and the store's insurance information.

A spokesman for the Aldi chain, which operates 1,600 stores nationwide, could not be reached for comment.
