Roads in some areas of New Jersey could be covered with light snow, creating slick conditions, forecasters say.

Although the storm system that's moving through New Jersey Tuesday afternoon is small and moving quickly, it still could drop additional snow across the region during the early part of the evening rush hour, forecasters said.

Snow, varying at times from light to moderate, is expected to continue through midday in Essex, Hudson, Morris, Sussex, Union and Warren counties and through the early evening in western Bergen and western Passaic counties, according to the National Weather Service. The steadiest snow is likely from noon into the mid-afternoon.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday for western Bergen and Passaic, with 1 to 3 inches of snow likely to fall as temperatures remain in the upper 20s to around 30 degrees.

"Accumulating snow will make untreated surfaces slippery, making driving difficult at times," the weather service's New York regional office said in its advisory."

Most areas of central New Jersey will see occasional snow flurries and light snow showers Tuesday afternoon, with less than one inch of accumulation, the weather service said.

Monmouth and Ocean counties will likely see some snow flurries or snow showers before 1 p.m., then a mix of snow and rain, followed by a slight chance of light rain after 3 p.m.

Areas further south of Monmouth and Ocean are getting very little snow on Tuesday and also have a slight chance of light rain in the afternoon, with temperatures in the mid-40s.

With the storm system moving out of the region Tuesday night, dry conditions are expected, but temperatures will dip into the mid-20s to low 30s in North Jersey and to the low 30s further south.

A noticeable warmup is in the forecast for Wednesday, with temperatures in the Newark area rising to 45 degrees, 5 degrees above normal for Feb. 1, and temperatures in the Atlantic City region jumping to 50 degrees, which is 8 degrees above normal for Feb. 1. The Trenton area is forecast to hit 48 degrees on Wednesday, 8 degrees above normal.

Colder weather is expected to return on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and forecasters say a storm system on Super Bowl Sunday could bring some light snow, flurries or mixed precipitation.
