CLOSTER -- Home Goods, Village Whiskey and Distrito have signed leases to open at Closter Plaza next year, Mayor John Glidden said to The Record.

A Whole Foods that will anchor the shopping center should open in November 2016.

Chef Jose Garces operates both Village Whiskey and Distrito. He was named "Best Chef, Mid-Atlantic," in 2009 by the James Beard Foundation and has held the title of the Food Network's Iron Chef.

Distrito focuses on the cuisine of Mexico City. Closter Plaza would be its second New Jersey location. Distrito is also in the Moorestown Mall, Philadelphia and Scottsdale, Arizona.

Distrito Moorestown, which opened in July 2014, became Garces' only New Jersey restaurant after Revel closed. Garces had three restaurants at the shuttered casino. Beth D'Addono of Inside Jersey gave the Moorestown eatery a positive review, calling it a "trailblazer on all fronts."

Closter would also host the second Village Whiskey location. The Philadelphia restaurant serves more than 200 whiskeys and claims to serve the country's best burger.

Developer Edens is overhauling the 50-year-old Closter Plaza into a 208,337-square-foot shopping center.
