ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS -- The dashboard camera on a Palisades Interstate Parkway police car captured officers in a dramatic 20-mile pursuit of a murder suspect.
David Campos, 45, crossed into New Jersey after being spotted by state troopers in New York Monday morning, according to authorities. Police were searching for Campos in connection with the stabbing death of his former girlfriend, Denise Gely, 44, in Troy, New York, the Albany Times Union reported.
Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department officers picked up the chase on the highway's New Jersey section, the department said.
Campos drove across the median into oncoming northbound traffic in Englewood Cliffs, police said. The video, obtained by The Record, shows PIP closely following the Chrysler 200.
The pursuit, which hit speeds between 70 and 90 mph, eventually ended when Campos hit traffic near the Exit 18 tolls in Secaucus, police said. PIP officers arrested Campos without further incident.
Bergen County Sheriff's Office records show Campos remains in custody ahead of extradition to New York. He also faces local charges of attempting to elude police and taking a vehicle without consent.
